On Saturday April 16th, The Summer Set played a hometown show at The Crescent Ballroom, three dates into their Stories For Monday Tour. I, of course, got tickets along with VIP.
The night started off with Brian Dales (vocals) and John Gomez (guitar) playing two acoustic songs off of their new album with the first song Figure Me Out, and the second was a crowd vote, All Night Long. Before beginning the performance, Brain explained to the crowd how the songs came to be and what it meant to him and the band in whole. After the acoustic performance, it was time for the group pictures. As the crowd lined up, the other three members, Jess Bowen (drums), Josh Montgomery (guitar), and Stephen Gomez (bass), came out and all stood in front of the Stories For Monday sign. Once all the fans got their photos, it was time to wander about as you were now allowed to talk to the band members, take selfies, and ask for autographs. My favorite part of the meet and greet was talking to Josh about our obsession with television show Bob’s Burgers.
At 7 o’clock, doors were officially open for general admission. The Crescent Ballroom began to fill up as everyone was anticipating for a night they would hopefully never forget. After an hour of buying merchandise and talking amongst ourselves, the house lights dimmed, and the first artist took the stage.
Call Me Karizma and his friend/D.J, D.J. Bryr performed six songs, including his newest single, FU till I FU. His set may have only been twenty minutes long, but he got the crowd pumped and excited for the rest of the night.
Only ten minutes after Karizma got off, the next band was set and ready to go on. Louisiana band, Royal Teeth, rocked the house and kept the crowd’s energy at a high. They played a total of six songs, including Heartbeats and ending with Mais La.
The last opener was Handsome Ghost. Again, they kept the crowd’s energy at the peak with excitement. In a forty-minute set, they played a total of 8 songs. One was even a cover of British band, The 1975’s song Sex. Handsome Ghost closed the night off with their newest single, Graduate, which came out on April 15.
The clock hit 10:30; it was finally that time the crowd was waiting for. The Summer Set was hitting the stage. Despite the show going on until midnight, the crowd never lost its hype. The fans sang along to all 19 songs, loud and proudly. The setlist was a mixture of old and new, from all four albums. We heard Chelsea, When We Were Young, Maybe Tonight, and Change Your Mind, just to name a few. The band gave their hometown a show it will all never forget.
The Summer Set has 15 more dates for the U.S. lag of the tour, if you haven’t yet, make sure to catch a show, for you really don’t want to miss this.
Once completing the U.S. tour, the band goes overseas to the United Kingdom to play a 9-date tour with friends, The Lafontaines and Sykes. For tickets and more information go to http://thesummersetband.com.
