Nightfall in Kali Yuga

Hailing from Louisville, alt-rockers The Fervor is anything but the usual. Beginning as a duo in 2005 by husband and wife Natalie and Ben Felker, the pair self-released their debut before bringing in percussionist, Mat Herron on board the following year. After a bit of quiet following a successful run of shows and festivals, the band released their very first EP “Nightfall in the Kali Yuga” in 5 years.
The three song EP starts off with a stomping ground similar to that of a tune by Arcade Fire, but as vocalist Natalie Felker chimes in with the first track “Sweet Thing”, she begins throwing punches with lyrics “Give me everything you got/ you were born to make decision based on satisfaction/ You were born to feel the pain,” causing you to nod your head in agreement.
Once “Power of Friends” kicks in, heartbeat rhythm begins following Felker singing in a mystical tone that reminds me of wanting to montage a trek through a forest. The eeriness in the song is almost overcrowded by the whimsy, but don’t be fooled.
The last track “Fearless” is by far my favorite off this three track EP. With the underlying meaning of being strong willed and free, is enough to motivate anyone to drag yourself out of bed.
“Nightfall in the Kali Yuga” is an amazing EP and just goes out to prove that a five year break is nothing for The Fervor.
