Everywhere you look on the internet you will find aspiring musicians desperately trying to make a name for themselves in the industry. Despite the overwhelming amounts of original music that one can find on Soundcloud and YouTube, it is rare to find someone who has both raw talent and the drive to make this dream become a reality. This is where Sam Tompkins enters. Sam is an 18- year old from Brighton, England and has begun to make waves in the Hip-Hop scene and even scored an opening slot for Jason Derulo in February. Sam is currently on tour and managing to keep fans constantly on their toes with enough deep tweets and mini-covers to last a lifetime. With an incredible vocal range and one hell of a gift for words, Sam is giving even the biggest names in music a run for their money. We talked to him about his new singles, his inspirations, and what he hopes to accomplish in the future!

BANDWIDTHCULTURE : Your new single, Faithful, came out in February! What was the inspiration behind this song? How has the response to it been so far?

SAM TOMPKINS : Yeah, the response to "Faithful" has been dope. Always getting messages about how much people have enjoyed listening to it since its release, which is the most important thing in my opinion.

BWC : Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

ST : I have a huge amount of musical inspirations... As I was growing up, I looked up to both my brother & sister and always used to imitate whatever they did so when it came to music I would listen to whatever they were listening to. I quickly found out that I absolutely adored R&B music. I loved Usher, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, and others. I've also always been obsessed with Justin Timberlake as he is honestly (in my opinion) one of the most consistent and interesting artists of recent times. Rap is also a huge part of my life. I love listening to old school hip-hop, for example recently I've been listening to a lot of: A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang & N.W.A. I also really appreciate people like Kanye & Drake who bring that different flavour to rap music. But in general, I really love all types of music and I'm open to be inspired by anything or anyone.

BWC : You made your first studio recording about two years ago and 2015 brought some major recognition for your music, what has that been like for you so far?

ST : Yeah, it's been a long time since it all began. It's been a bit of a whirlwind. Seems like everything has gone so quickly, but equally it's also felt like a really long journey to get to where I am. Very appreciative of the people who I've met along the way, whether that's fans or just friends. It's very cool to be recognized for something I love though. Will always be proud of that.

BWC : How did you react when you found out you’d be opening for Jason Derulo?

ST : Well, I was obviously very happy!!! Majorly excited too as it was going to be be my first time sharing new music with people.

BWC : If you could tell your younger self anything, what would it be?

ST : If I could tell my younger self anything, it would be not to get too gassed and just appreciate every little moment you have.

BWC : What else do you have in store for fans in the coming year?

ST : Hopefully by the end of the year, there will be a one or two projects out there for the fans to listen to and enjoy, a film cameo & soundtrack also. Some HUGE collaborations as well.

BWC : Is there anything in particular that you are excited to accomplish in the next few years?

ST : There's a few things I'm excited for in the coming years, but that is strictly confidential haha... can't tell everyone all my secrets.

BWC : Where do you want to travel to do your music?

The US is definitely where I wanna take my music. LA especially.

BWC : Is there anything else that you have to say to your fans?

ST : All I can really say to the fans is thank you to be honest. So blessed. So grateful. Thank you all so much.

You can find Sam on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Soundcloud, and Youtube.
