On Friday April 1st, I had the pleasure to see the widely acclaimed comedy show “Oh Hello” starring John Mulaney as the Newark native and author of Rifkin’s Dilemma, George St. Geegland, and Nick Kroll as the stand in model for mashed potatoes, Gail Fazion, at The Montalban Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif. This was my first time at the Montalban, it took me a good few minutes to find my seats after distracting myself by getting a glass of wine from the upstairs bar and admiring the fan art that was displayed along the walls.
The room went dark and the stage lit-up as the two comedians walked on stage, immediately making the audience laugh. As audience members continued to make their way to their seats, drinks in hand, Kroll said, “Oh, please don't mind us, just take your time to find your seats. No rush.” Mulaney chimed in by saying “ It’s not as if we started 20 minutes late or anything.”
Once the audience was settled, they introduced themselves opening with their popular “Oooooohhhhhh Hellllooooo” and explained to the audience that in their time when some said this, it was polite to say it back, causing the audience to chuckle while they repeated “Oooohh Helllo!” back. “You’re about to see a play. You guys had no idea

what this was and you IDIOTS all bought tickets. So get ready to sit here and feel uncomfortable for a long time,” Mulaney joked about the 70 minute play they were about to perform. I laughed, of course, because it was true. I knew little about the show but being a fan of both the comedians, I bought tickets.
The stage was set and the backstory began of two roommates on Manhattan’s upper west side (“the coffee breathe of neighborhoods”) who were no longer going to be able to afford their $75 a month rent because it was raised to $4000 a month. Being a failed novelist and actor they wondered what to do.
As the night went on, they introduced their famous sketch called, “Too Much Tuna” a prank show that was picked up by NY1. They began the sketch by informing us they had a big name celebrity lined up for tonight, but sadly they received an email late the following night saying “no,” and that they had cc’d their lawyer in the email, so naturally they needed to find someone to fill their spot. Kroll made his way into the audience and picked out a tall young man named Dieter who was eager to participate. They questioned him, in an attempt to get to know him, all while making jokes at everyone's expense. “So you work for Fox Sports, are you an assistant?” “No!” “Alright, alright.” The room filled with laughter as everyone waited for the punch line and the giant tuna sandwich to make an appearance.

Another big part of their show was their sound and lighting guy, Ralffey whom they teased and occasionally yelled at making the audience ripple with laughter. As the comedic duo began their dance number, (yes, I said a dance number) and explained to everyone that they had choreographed the dance so that they'd end up laying on the floor “We are now going to lay here for two real minutes” and began to yell for Rallfey. The two were throwing jokes out left and right. “Rallfey, will you get me some Arizona Iced tea not the kind in a can but the kind that's really weird and in a milk jug with a spout on the side. Who does that? It makes no sense.” Kroll yelled at one point.
The show was a riot from start to finish as they took us through the last days of Gail and George, two characters Kroll and Mulaney have been perfecting for years. There was not a moment when the audience wasn't laughing, as Mulaney and Kroll killed the night. I highly recommend for everyone to catch a show in the near future.
For more info on future dates, be sure to follow the the two comedians on their social media sites and keep a look out for more tickets.
