I discovered The White Noise last year through a friend of mine who spoke of them frequently on her twitter. Since she has good taste in music, I checked them out and I’m so glad I did because their debut EP Aren’t You Glad? does not stop, or come up for air until the last note of the last song. The six song album was released via Fearless Records and features heavy and melodic jams, that will make you want to jump around. To make things even better, this record translates tremendously live, as I’ve had the privilege of seeing the band live while they toured with I See Stars on February 21. The band is made up of vocalist Shawn Walker, bassist Bailey Crego, guitarist and back-up vocalist David Southern, guitarist Josh Strock, and drummer Tommy West.
The album opens with a track titled “The Doctor Will See You Now” which features dramatic guitars and Walker repeating, “I’ve never felt, I’ve never felt like this before.” The pounding album delivers, starts with this. The track immediately sets the tone for the record.
The second song is one of my favorites and the first track I heard by the band, titled “Bloom.” This song is aggressive with the instrumentals and Walker shouting, “1, 2, fuck you!” This aggression and anger comes out in lyrics like the chorus “You made your bed, now sleep in it.” This track is a good combination of choruses meant to be sung and heavy breakdowns that all metal fans like. Every song on this album comes at you like a freight train and because it’s only 6 songs there’s no space for just noise. I recommend checking it out as you’re going to want to know who these guys are when they blow up.
Check out: “Bloom,” “Red Eye Lids” and “Cosmopolitician”
