The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is ever expanding and Marvel Studios knows how to attract an audience and keep them hooked; proven by the third installments of both Captain America and Thor coming out next year. Over Thanksgiving weekend, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to drop not only the poster for the upcoming Captain America 3 but also the hotly anticipated trailer. “Captain America: Civil War” as the movie has been titled, is the first introduction in the MCU to Black Panther or T’Challa, the king of the fictional African country Wakanda where vibranium is found. Vibranium is the substance that Captain America’s shield consists of and is the strongest metal in the world, nearly indestructible. This movie is predicted to become a massive hit movie for Marvel Studios when it hits cinemas on May 6, 2016. The anticipation for this MCU movie caused DC to move the date back for its highly anticipated sequel to “Man of Steel”, “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” to March so it didn’t compete with it for box office numbers.
The trailer shows Captain America talking to the Winter Soldier, his old friend Bucky Barnes, explaining that people are after him to penalize him for the chaos he created in the last film, “Winter Soldier.” For those not familiar with the premise of “Civil War,” one of the plot lines discusses the destruction and chaos in Avengers I and II, the United States government is requiring superheroes or people with powers to register with the government. Tony Stark is out to the public as being Iron Man, so naturally he has no problem with it and is for it, whereas Steve Rodgers and Natasha Romanoff are against it. The difference between the movie and the comic in regards to the Superhuman Registration Act, is the law called the Sokovia Accords which is a reference to the country that was left a little messy by Tony Stark’s invention of Ultron in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” With involvement in this movie from Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Iron Patriot it helps set up the next Avengers movie and more movies in third part of the MCU.
