Bring Me The Horizon : A Secret Show

Bring Me The Horizon (BMTH) is a band most young adults are familiar with. In 2008, the band received commercial recognition with their release of Suicide Season and cemented the fact that they were a band that wouldn’t be leaving the music scene any time soon. Their three subsequent albums allowed them to establish themselves even more, leading them to play larger and larger venues around the world. In late 2014, BMTH was able to headline SSE Arena in Wembley, London to a sold-out crowd of 12,500 people. It was an experience the band was sure would never happen, but was successfully accomplished.
Since then BMTH has been writing a new record, which dropped worldwide on September 11, 2015. To promote their fifth studio release, That’s The Spirit, BMTH decided to do something different by playing small, intimate shows. Sirius XM hosted one of these shows in New York, NY on September 15, 2015. It was held at Webster Studio, which is a 200 capacity venue. For BMTH to play such a small venue was a once in a lifetime event to attend. It’s highly doubted that they will be playing additional shows like this, because they are too ‘in demand’. People were standing outside the venue begging to get in, looking for anyone with an extra ticket. Everyone knew that this show was going to be something amazing and wanted to get in at any cost.
Once inside the venue, it hit me how small a 200 capacity venue really is. People were crammed into every corner of The Studio anxiously awaiting BMTH to take the stage. It was a secret, intimate show, so no one else played that night. The doors opened at 7pm but the band wasn’t set to take the stage until 8pm. It seemed like the longest hour possible waiting but when 8pm came around, everyone was amped. People started shoving and you could see the excitement on everyone’s face. But in true live show fashion, BMTH did not start at 8pm. It was an additional painstakingly long 20 more minutes until “Happy Song” began playing through the PA system.
The crowd began chanting the lyrics at the top of their lungs. “S-P-I-R-I-T. Spirit, let’s hear it,” over and over. Everyone started pushing forward, anticipating Matt Kean, Lee Malia, Matt Nicholls, Jordan Fish and Oliver Sykes finally walking on stage.
BMTH played for about an hour, a total of 11 songs, and it was spectacular. You could tell watching these five guys, that they loved the small show vibe. They loved being so close to their fans and seeing a room full of people that wanted nothing else except being at The Studio with BMTH. They played new songs such as “Throne,” “Drown,” and “True Friends,” complete with a surprise encore of “Blessed with a Curse”. Every single person in the audience knew the words to every song! BMTH brought so much energy to the stage with them, the hour went by way too fast. They were smiling, jumping around (as much as they could with a small stage) and getting the crowd involved. It was thrilling to be able to see such a large-scale band in such a small-scale setting and everyone in attendance knew that.
Bring Me The Horizon has a full U.S. tour booked starting in October. Touring with them are Issues and PVRIS, and tickets are on sale now. Also, be sure to grab their new album That’s The Spirit. It’s a great CD and you’ll want to know the words to the new songs they play live!
